Law Enforcement Torch Run June 3

Expect traffic delays along the LETR event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 3.

This is one of many torch runs occurring throughout the nation to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics athletes.

In Washington, LETR marks the beginning of the Summer Special Olympic Games which occur at Joint Base Lewis McChord and the King County Aquatic Center this weekend.  Many athletes throughout Lewis County will be participating in the summer games.

This event allows law enforcement officers to support local Special Olympics athletes and raise awareness about them.  It is also a way to raise money for the athletes and their families.  The funds will be used to help families with travel expenses, equipment and facilities expenses and any other costs they may incur as a result of their involvement with Special Olympics.

If enough money is raised, funds will be used for the athletes to fly to Athens, Greece, for the World Games. Tax deductable donations can be made to Special Olympics Washington and given to officers during the run.

Traffic delays will occur throughout Lewis County from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. along the route.
