  Flood Warning Issued: Minor to moderate flooding possible

Minor to moderate flooding is possible beginning this evening through Thursday on the Newaukum and Chehalis rivers. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches today and another 1 to 4 inches tonight is expected. The National Weather Service updated the flood status to a warning at 9:53 this morning.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SEATTLE HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING
FOR THE FOLLOWING RIVERS IN WASHINGTON...

  NEWAUKUM RIVER NEAR CHEHALIS AFFECTING LEWIS COUNTY.
  CHEHALIS RIVER NEAR DOTY AFFECTING LEWIS COUNTY.
  CHEHALIS RIVER AT CENTRALIA AFFECTING LEWIS COUNTY.
  CHEHALIS RIVER NEAR GRAND MOUND AFFECTING THURSTON COUNTY.

.FLOOD BULLETIN NO. 3

MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING IS EXPECTED ALONG THE CHEHALIS AND
NEWAUKUM RIVERS BEGINNING THIS EVENING.

THE UPPER REACH OF THE CHEHALIS RIVER NEAR DOTY WILL REACH FLOOD
STAGE EARLY THIS EVENING...WITH FLOODING BEGINNING DOWNSTREAM IN
CENTRALIA AND FURTHER DOWNSTREAM IN THURSTON COUNTY LATE TONIGHT AND
WEDNESDAY MORNING. IN ADDITION A FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR
THE LOWER REACH OF THE CHEHALIS RIVER IN GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY...WHERE
FLOODING IS POSSIBLE BEGINNING LATE WEDNESDAY.

THE NEWAUKUM RIVER NEAR CHEHALIS WILL ALSO REACH FLOOD STAGE THIS
EVENING...WITH MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING CONTINUING THROUGH
WEDNESDAY NIGHT OR THURSDAY.

UP TO 4 INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN IN THE CHEHALIS RIVER BASIN DURING
THE PAST 24 HOURS...WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS OVER THE WILLAPA
HILLS. ANOTHER 2 TO 5 INCHES OF RAIN IS EXPECTED TODAY THROUGH
WEDNESDAY EVENING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

DO NOT DRIVE CARS...VANS...OR TRUCKS THROUGH FLOODED AREAS. THIS IS
THE CAUSE OF MOST FLOOD RELATED DEATHS IN WASHINGTON. BE ALERT FOR
RAPID CHANGES AND MONITOR DEVELOPMENTS BY LISTENING TO NOAA WEATHER
RADIO OR OTHER LOCAL MEDIA.
