  Jazz Quilt Event

The City of Centralia and the Centralia Downtown Association are proud to be the organizers of the first “ever” combined Jazz & Quilts event, a Heritage Month of May Celebration, on May 12th. The Quilt event will start at 10:00 a.m., Saturday with quilts on display in the participating stores. Start the day at the Historic Centralia Train Depot or the Centralia Timberland Library by picking up a Passport for $1.00 which will have discounts and offers from local businesses that are participating and a detailed map to guide you to each quilt location. Quilts will be on display at the Centralia Train Depot, the Centralia Timberland Library, the Historic Borst Home and also some vacant storefronts to brighten the streetscape windows of downtown Centralia. There will be quilts submitted by local quilters and quilt clubs that will be voted upon by the passport holders back at the Historic Train Depot. There will also be live demonstrations, quilting supplies, vendors and quilt exhibits hung in the train depot. There will be judging of the quilts later in the day with the final awarding of prize ribbons to the quilters winning quilts.

Starting at 8:00 pm, the Greta Matassa Jazz Concert will highlight the evening at the Historic Fox Theatre as a fund raiser to benefit the Fox. Featured jazz performer, Greta Matassa is one of the most talented singers working in jazz today and was voted "Northwest Vocalist of the Year" by Earshot Jazz. Greta has been a mainstay on Seattle's Jazz stages for many years and with her recent tours of Russia, Singapore and Hawaii and Japan, Greta's sound is now reaching new audiences. Greta has released seven CD's on the respected jazz label Origin Records and a DVD live concert with Mimi Fox.

Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/236345, and will soon be available at Santa Lucia Coffee and Hub Bub in Centralia as well as re:Design and Book and Brush in Chehalis! Tickets are $25.00 (general admission) and $50.00 for stage-side table seating. Premium ticket holders will be treated to a heavy hors d'oeuvres and wine party at 5:30 p.m. with Matassa and the band, (Hosted by Santa Lucia Coffee Company and catered by Boccata Deli and Market).

This event promises to be a great addition to our city so close to Mother’s Day! Tour downtown, enjoy lunch, dinner, and then go to the Greta Matassa concert. All proceeds from the Quilt Show and Concert benefit the Historic Fox Theatre for it's ongoing restoration.
