Utility Bill Phone Scam Information
Please be aware that scam phone calls are being made to customers regarding their City of Centralia utility bills. Callers demand payment and threaten disconnection of utility services – usually power – if payment isn’t made to them immediately.
At first, the scam calls may seem to be legitimate. Your caller ID may even falsely indicate the call is coming from the City or a PUD. However, scammers are great actors and actresses and will work very hard to convince you they are from the City. Most reports of this type of call come from businesses, but anyone can be a target. The City of Centralia does not use this method to collect payment for utility bills.
City of Centralia utility bills are mailed to customers with payment due on the 25th of the month. Past due accounts are also mailed a bill. Payment is not demanded over the phone and payment is never taken in person at your door. We also don’t make calls to customers on weekends or on holidays.
If you receive a suspicious call demanding payment and threatening disconnection of your City of Centralia utilities, please hang up and contact the Customer Service Center at 360.330.7657. For suspicious calls received on a weekend or holiday contact the Customer Service Center on the next work day.
