Fire Hydrant Flushing Wednesday, October 07, 2020
Centralia Public Works Water Department employees will begin flushing fire hydrants on Monday, October 12, 2020. This process will continue throughout the City for approximately four weeks. Hydrant flushing removes sediment from the main water lines and introduces fresh water to dead-end lines.
The flushing process requires water to be expelled in large quantities at a high velocity from the mains through fire hydrants. Drivers and pedestrians in the Centralia area are asked to use caution when they observe water flowing from fire hydrants.
Households should check their water supply by running a faucet before washing clothing or performing other water-using activities in order to keep turbid water from being used. Customers may wish to conduct such activities before 7:30 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m. during these four weeks to avoid times when water might be cloudy.
To find out when your area will be affected or for further information on flushing activity, please call Public Works at 360-330-7512.
