Neighborhood Watch

Help fight crime by starting this community program in your neighborhood.

How to organize a Neighborhood Watch

  • Identify areas to be organized into a Watch group. Areas should be limited to 15 or fewer households.
  • Designate at least one resident from the group to serve as Watch Captain. If there are two interested people, the second can serve as co-captain. The captain (and co-captain) will be the contact people between the Watch group and the Centralia Police Department (CPD).
  • The program is not overseen or operated by CPD. Watch groups are run by interested neighbors.
  • The Watch Captain may advise CPD regarding the date, time, and location of an initial Neighborhood Watch meeting. A police officer or department representative may be able to attend the meeting and bring brochures and current crime statistics. Staff and officers are not always available to attend.
  • Metal or plastic street signs identifying the area as a Watch Neighborhood may be purchased by the Watch group from www.nnwi.org. CPD does not provide signage but encourages active groups to put up signs.
  • Watch groups are encouraged to hold neighborhood meetings as needed and are encouraged to attend CPD Town Hall meetings when they have additional questions or crime concerns.
  • Always call 911 in an emergency.
